Dear friends and members of NSSA,

It is a great pleasure to communicate with you all after some time. The Journal of Spinal Surgery (JOSS) is back among the members with new vigor and determination to reach new heights. We are extremely happy to inform you that a new and enthusiastic editorial board has taken the mantle and set to change the scope of the Journal. It is tough but not impossible to rejuvenate JOSS during this tormenting pandemic period. A new year has born, and we look forward to a bright and successful 2022.

In the last decade, surgery at atlanto-axial (AA) joint has taken the limelight and has been discussed in every corner of the world and no journal was spared without an article on this subject. The push-on recommendation on distraction at AA joint is far ahead in terms of advancement to an extent; the age-old standard transoral odontoidectomy is forced to get into the dumping station. The debate on this subject is a special one for this issue. This apart from the variety of other articles on different subjects makes this issue very special to start with. I welcome readers and friends worldwide to contribute to the development of the JOSS. Do visit the website www.jossworld.org to submit your articles.

Best wishes
